You can setup multiple user profiles on your laptop and each profile will work independently of the other.
This way, everybody gets their own desktop, wallpapers, screensavers, documents folder, music folders and so on.
To create a new account on your laptop:
Click on Start > Control Panel > User Accounts and Family Safety > Add or Remove User Accounts.
Click on Create a New Account and enter a name for the new user. Click Create Account button.
Now click on Manage My Network Passwords link in Control Panel > User Accounts and Family Safety. You will see all the accounts that you have created on your laptop. Right click on one of the accounts and select New from the menu. Here you can add passwords for various websites that you frequently visit so that whenever you visit those sites, Windows will automatically log in for you using those credentials.

Most laptops come with a single user profile. The username, password and desktop settings are the same for everyone who uses the computer. To make it more convenient for everyone, make a separate user profile for each person. Each user will have their own username and password so that they can log in at any time and have their own desktop settings loaded automatically.
To create a new user profile in Windows XP, click Start > Control Panel > User Accounts. You can also reach this window by clicking Start > Run and typing control nusrmgr.cpl. Click Create a new account to open the New Account wizard, then type a name for the account (such as Tom or Kimberly) and select an account type (such as Computer administrator or Limited). Click Next to continue, then follow the steps to finish creating the account.
To create a new user profile in Windows Vista, click Start > Control Panel > User Accounts and Family Safety > User Accounts. You can also reach this window by clicking Start > Run and typing control nusrmgr.cpl .
Click Manage another account to view the available accounts, then click Create a new account to open the New Account

Some of us share our laptops with others. You might want to give your old laptop to your kid or spouse and they can use it for their work. But the problem arises when you don’t want them to see some of your data.
In this situation, you can set up multiple user accounts on Windows. You can create different accounts for different users and assign a password to those accounts so that no one else can access the account without a password. You can also assign an icon to each user account so that users can identify themselves quickly.
If you are sharing your laptop with others, then this blog would be helpful to you. It is a common scenario that if we share our computer with other people, they will be able to see our personal information such as browsing history, cookies, passwords and other important information.
Even though we have set up a password for each account, it is still hard to prevent others from viewing the things you don’t want them to see. So the best way is to use the Guest User accounts provided by Windows 10. The guest account comes in handy when you have someone who needs to use your computer but does not have an account on it.
It can also be useful for children that need temporary access to a computer without needing full user privileges.
Setting up multiple user profiles for a laptop is a great way of keeping your data organized and secure. You can set up your own account with a separate password and keep your settings, files and data safe from other users.
Different users with different profiles can also help in keeping the settings intact. You can configure your system settings, desktop appearance, color scheme, screen savers etc. according to your liking and it will not be changed by other users.
You don’t even have to worry about losing all your saved passwords because of others accessing it. You can use this feature to teach your children how to access the internet without fear of them stumbling upon inappropriate websites or deleting important files by mistake.
Follow these easy steps to create multiple user profiles on your laptop:

2. Under ‘Pick a task’ click on ‘Create a new account’:
3. Enter the name you want for the account:
4. Select the type of account you want – Administrator or Standard Account (standard accounts have limited privileges):
5. Click on Create Account:
6. Now click on Change the Account Type under Pick a Task in User Accounts:
7. Select the type of account you want
I have a personal laptop and was using it in my office as well. It is an 11-inch Macbook Air, so I could not share it with anyone else. But I had to share the laptop with my wife and son sometimes. They used to change the settings or play games on my system which would create a mess for me at times. There were also instances where I logged into my system, only to find that some app had been downloaded without my knowledge and I was prompted to pay for it.
I finally decided that I needed multiple user profiles on my machine, so others can use it without disturbing my own settings or files. Setting up multiple user profiles is very easy on Mac OS X. Here are the steps that you need to follow:
1) Click on the Apple icon on top left of your desktop screen and select System Preferences
2) Click on Users & Groups
3) Click on Login Options
4) Click on Join… button (This will prompt you for your account password)
5) Select Open Directory Utility from the drop down menu
6) Click Edit > Enable Root User (This will prompt for your account password again)
7) Enter a password for Root user (Type this in carefully twice!)
8) Close
Sometime back I did an article on how to create a standard user account in Windows 8. If you are the only person using your laptop then this is the best choice for you. However if you are sharing your laptop with your family and friends then you will want to take advantage of multiple user profiles. Here is how to create multiple user profiles:
You can find the User Accounts and Family Safety section in Control Panel. Click Set Up Parental Controls for any user to set up parental controls, or click Manage Another Account to manage another account.
Click Create a new account to add a new user profile. Enter the username and select an account type, which can be Standard User or Administrator. You will be prompted to enter a password if you select Administrator as the account type.
Click Create Account and the new account will be added to the list of users in User Accounts. You can manage an existing account by clicking Change an Account Type or Delete an Account.
