The environment is a hot topic these days. Environmental technology, or “envirotech,” has been around for decades, but it’s only recently that we’ve started to take notice. As new products come out and the public gets more and more involved, envirotech can help us reduce our effect on the environment.

1. Buy a hybrid or electric vehicle. The Chevrolet Volt and Nissan Leaf are two of the most popular electric cars on the market. It also lets you share ideas for saving energy and reducing emissions on Facebook and Twitter.
3. Upgrade to LED light bulbs. LED light bulbs have come down in price considerably in recent years, and they last much longer than incandescent bulbs-up to 25 times longer than incandescents, according to Energy Star’s website. That means homeowners can save quite a bit on their electricity bills while also helping to conserve energy by not having to replace bulbs as often.

If you’re like most Americans, your phone is practically attached to your hand. So why not cut your carbon footprint in this area? First, you can green your device by switching to a recycled or biodegradable phone. The 5th generation iPod nano is available in a biodegradable model that is made from bamboo and corn starch, whereas the LG Remarq is made from recycled plastics and comes in a 100 percent recyclable box.
Second, you can choose environmentally friendly accessories for your phone. Some accessory manufacturers are now using fair trade practices as well as sustainable materials such as bamboo and hemp. Finally, choose an eco-friendly carrier that offsets its emissions.
