You may be wondering what is a quadcopter and what makes it so cool?

Quadcopters are unmanned helicopter drones that are lifted and propelled by four rotors. They provide a different flight experience compared to traditional helicopters because quadcopters can hover in the air much like a hummingbird, and they are capable of flying in any direction.

Some quadcopters are camera equipped which allows the user to take aerial photographs. We just got our hands on the new DJI Phantom 4 and it’s amazing. Check out this video we shot using the new Active Track feature that allows you to track a person or object with ease.

The Phantom 4 automatically stays within a 15-meter radius of its designated subject, even if it moves behind an obstacle. It’s equipped with dual forward vision sensors and infrared sensing systems for a total of five directions of obstacle sensing and four directions of obstacle avoidance (the two sensors at the back overlap). Once you designate your subject in the DJI GO app, the Phantom 4 will use its vision sensors to detect and avoid obstacles as it follows them.

If you are flying manually, it is possible to turn off the forward/backward obstacle sensing by flipping a switch on the remote controller. The left/right and up/down obstacle sensing remains active. If you are flying autonomously, for example, if you are using TapFly or ActiveTrack and want to fly close to an object, you must slow down to below 3 m/s.
